Valedictory Award Winners

Fresher of the Year:
Bianca McConville

This award is presented to an individual who has surpassed expectations in their first year through active engagement in College life and extracurricular activities.

Originally from Yallingup, Bianca is pursuing a Bachelor of Sport Science. Actively engaged in a wide array of Inter-College sports, she has also been a regular attendee at various College events, from Formal Halls to clubs, FriYAY art classes and beyond.

Citizen of the Year:
Luna Herrera

This award recognises a resident who works quietly behind the scenes, supporting and inspiring fellow residents. Through their actions, this individual makes a positive impact on both the College and the broader community.

Originally from Columbia, Luna is studying for a Bachelor of Commerce. Her friendly and kind presence at College makes everyone feel seen and welcomed, especially when she greets residents at the entrance of the Dining Hall.

Collegian of the Year:
Oliver Barrett

This award recognises a resident involved in many aspects of College life and/or the broader community. The recipient is also known for their adeptness at rallying and supporting others.

Originally from Perth and studying a Bachelor of Philosophy in Synthetic Chemistry, Anatomy and Human Biology, Oliver is known for his active engagement in College life. Beyond serving as a Residential Advisor, he actively participates in various Inter-College sports and events. Recognised as a positive role model, he has been elected as Co-President by his fellow residents for the upcoming year.

2023 Valedictorians

Bradley Carter

Bradley studied a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Economics and Human Resource Management. Next year, he aims to work in the hotel industry and travel extensively. His fondest memory of St Cat’s revolves around the beloved tradition of Sunday Roasts.

Charlotte Tinley

Charlotte pursued a Bachelor of Biomedical Science and next year she wants to pursue a Graduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound. Her favourite memory of St Cat’s involves the study sessions with friends at the Learning Center and coffee walks to Boubar.

Denise Tse

Denise studied a Bachelor of Marine Science and Korean Studies. Her aspiration for the upcoming year is to work in the Marine Future Labs at UWA. One of her favourite memories at St Cat’s was attending Battle of the Bands.

Ellenor Sibon

Ellenor studied a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Philosophy and a minor in Active Citizenship. Her plans involve pursuing a Master of Creative Arts Therapy at Murdoch University. Her favourite memory at St Cat’s was either Wing Wars or spending peaceful afternoons in the first-year common room doing art and puzzles with friends.

Emily Ah-Nim

Emily studied a Bachelor of Commerce with a focus on Finance and Management. Her plan for the upcoming year involves staying in Perth, securing accommodation with friends and commencing full-time work. Among her cherished memories at St Cat’s, Assassins Week stands out, alongside the countless hours spent chatting with friends in the Dining Hall.

Jaimee Whirledge

Jaimee studied a Bachelor of Performing Arts and next year, she aims to apply for performance grants, produce shows, seek internships in the arts sector and participate in festival work. Her favourite memories at St Cat’s include late-night games of hide and seek across the College grounds and study sessions at the Learning Centre that turned into impromptu Boubar trips.

Jarrod Li-Hunnam

Jarrod studied a Bachelor of Biomedical Science with a major in Integrated Medical Science and Medical Practice. His aspirations for next year involve enrolling in the Doctor of Medicine program at UWA. Fondly reflecting on his time at St Cat’s, he cherishes the strong friendships forged during this journey.

Juen Kai Kwong

Juen Kai Kwong pursued a degree in Engineering Science and he remains uncertain about his plans for the upcoming year. One of his favourite memories at St Cat’s involves spending time with friends at the Microtheatre.

Kai Yang Lau (Kelvis)

Kelvis studied a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Accounting and Finance. His goal for next year is to begin working as a graduate auditor. The Dessert Club events are among his most cherished memories at St Cat’s.

Kayleen Wangsa Hartana

Kayleen studied a Bachelor of Commerce and she aims to commence work in the upcoming year. Her most treasured memory at St Cat’s revolves around the cherished company of her friends.

Lek Suen Lim

Lek Suen Lim pursued a degree in Communication and Media Studies and her plans for the following year involve a combination of travel and work. Her favourite memory at St Cat’s is spending time with her friends in the music room.

Matthew Collins

Matthew studied a Master of Architecture. His aspirations for the coming year include delving into work related to Architectural Heritage Conservation. His favourite memory at St Cat’s would have to be swimming at Matilda Bay and placing the St Catherine’s College shirt over the statue after Commencement Dinner.

Megan O’Neill

Megan pursued a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Law and Society and Criminology with a minor in Applied Ethics. Her goal for the upcoming year is to commence her Juris Doctor studies. The highlight of her time at St Cat’s was winning Inter-College netball.

Megan Weed

Megan pursued a degree in a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. Her plans for next year include enjoying a summer holiday followed by beginning work as a junior doctor. Her favourite memory of St Cat’s was being able to live next door to her best friend.

Niray Shah

Niray pursued a Bachelor of Arts with a focus on History and Political Science and International Relations. His plan for the upcoming year involves studying for the Juris Doctor. The highlight of his time at St Catherine’s College was the unexpected yet enriching conversations he was able to have.

Parth Kanade

Parth pursued a Bachelors in Economics and Anthropology. His aim for next year is to venture into work as a Heritage Consultant, specifically as an Anthropologist. His favourite memory at St Cat’s is the conversations he had with a diverse array of individuals in the Dining Hall.

Pranay Singh

Pranay pursued a degree in a Master of Marketing and his plan for the upcoming year involves settling in Perth and exploring more of Western Australia. His favourite memories at St Cat’s include connecting with friends over shared meals in the Dining Hall, late-night study sessions and impromptu movie nights.

Sofia Mayordomo Barrero

Sofia pursued a degree in immunology and microbiology and plans to pursue her honours next year. Her favourite memory at St Cat’s is PROSH, where residents from the College sell an annual satirical newspaper written by students at the University of Western Australia to raise funds for charity.

Steffi Yeow

Steffi has a degree in Marketing and Media Communications and aspires to both work and pursue a Master’s degree in the coming year. Her fondest memory of St Cat’s is her first year where she was able to meet a wide variety of individuals - many whom have become lifelong friends.

Tex Garstone

Tex pursued a Bachelor of Psychology and his goal for the upcoming year is to apply for honours. His favourite memory from his time at St Cat’s is celebrating his 19th birthday at Simmos. Tex was also a part of the Dandjoo Darbalung program and participated in the 27th Indigenous Nationals.

Honourable Mentions

Benjamin Rossdeutscher
Benjamin pursued a Bachelor of Science (Physics) and he hopes to start a Masters in Physics at UWA next year. His favourite memory of St Cat’s involves a 2 am Whoosh bike ride around Nedlands during the first year with his friends.

Kiara Morton Reginald
Kiara pursued a Bachelor of Commerce and Finance. She is still figuring out her plans for the upcoming year but hopes to start working soon. Her fondest memory of St Cat’s is all the late-night chats with her friends.

Yukio Chaplin
Yukio pursued a Bachelor of Environmental Science focusing on Conservation and Wildlife Biology. Additionally, Yukio actively participated in the Dandjoo Darbalung program and volunteered for various events, including speaking at the Perth USAsia Centre in March 2023. Presently, Yukio is engaged in a 12-week professional placement with Woodside and aspires to secure an Environmental Graduate role in 2024.
